Costa Rica 2012
This workshop is sold out.
Through a mix of presentations and hands-on instruction, award-winning photographers Doug and Greg will help you on a daily basis to learn techniques such as metering and exposing complex scenes, fill-flash in the field, multiple flash lighting for natural and creative looks, composition in-camera, and digital post-processing. Group size is limited to 8 participants so we will provide plenty of personalized instruction. We'll be photographing an amazing array of subjects including toucans, parrots, macaws, tanagers, vultures, hummingbirds, herons, motmots, crocodiles, red-eyed tree frogs, and monkeys -- all in the wild!
Join BBC award-winning photographers, Jim Neiger and Doug Brown, in July, 2013 for a workshop focusing on birds in flight. We've selected the area around Huntington Beach, California for its incredible number and variety of birds, not to mention the great weather! In July, Terns will number in the tens of thousands, and there should be no fewer than five different species (Elegant, Forster's, Caspian, Royal, and Least). Black Skimmers, Pelicans, Egrets, Herons, and Gulls will all be plentiful. There will also be opportunities to photograph more challenging subjects such as raptors, Kingfishers, and shorebirds. These workshops are filled with non stop flight action. If you wish to learn the best techniques for photographing birds in flight, followed by unlimited opportunities to practice these techniques and develop the skills required to consistently photograph birds in flight, then this is the workshop for you. The focus of the workshops will be on mastering the hand held, long lens technique favored by both Jim and Doug. Manual exposure for birds in flight will also be emphasized. There will be an instructional lecture on the first day, followed by morning and afternoon sessions in the field for each of the next three days. As an added feature, you will have the opportunity to hone your Lightroom and Photoshop skills with Jim and Doug during the free time in between field sessions. Noted flight photographer Arash Hazeghi will be joining us as a guest instructor during the July 6-9 workshop. The workshop will be limited to twelve participants; with two expert instructors available, everyone will receive plenty of individualized attention both in the field and the classroom.
Join BPN avian moderator Doug Brown, NSN avian moderator Greg Basco, and NPN avian moderator Keith Bauer for a 3 1/2 day workshop at the Bosque del Apache this December! The workshop experience will be broad-based, emphasizing manual exposure for long lens flight photography (either hand held or with a tripod). The other major emphasis will be on image optimization with Lightroom and Photoshop. All 3 instructors are well versed in image processing, but Keith is a true expert who teaches classes on both Lightroom and Photoshop. We'll be doing formal and informal computer sessions every day. Additional workshop highlights will include environmental avian photography (one of Greg's specialties), landscapes (including sunrises and sunsets), long exposures, and silhouettes. We'll also devote some time to captive raptor photography with a fantastic collection of birds from a local raptor education and rehabilitation center.
