Costa Rica Vacation Fall 2011
September 24th, 2011
I’m just finishing a fantastic Costa Rica vacation with my wife! We visited my good friend Greg Basco (aka Speedo Capri) and his wife Ana; they were wonderful hosts. Photographic highlights included the feeders in Greg’s front yard (think Motmots, assorted Tanagers, and something like 8 species of hummingbirds), visits to a couple of our favorite ecolodges, and a wonderful night at Bosque de Paz. This was the first time I used my 600mm f/4 lens here (I’ve always taken my 500mm due to weight considerations), but since my wife was using the 500mm I took the 600mm. I was happy to have the extra reach with a preserved f/4 maximum aperture. I don’t think I ever used my 1.4x during this trip, whereas it was constantly attached to the 500mm on previous visits. I’m hoping to have the new lighter 600mm f/4 before my next Costa Rica workshop at the beginning of February; if so I think I’ll bring it rather than the new 500mm that I also have on order. Here’s a Brown-Hooded Parrot from earlier this week.

That’s Mr. Speedo Capri to you — show some respect!
BTW, go to line 14 in your custom.css file to change the text color in this box to 999999 if you want it to be grey like the other text. If you wanted to change the background color in this box to white, go to style.css, line 351 and change the value #111111 to #ffffff. Save both files in your modified folder, then upload them and overwrite the existing files on the server. You know the drill.
Cheers,
Greg
